ഗ്രേറ്റ് ബ്രിട്ടനിലെ സീറോ മലബാര്‍ വിശ്വാസികള്‍ക്കായി പ്രസ്റ്റണ്‍ ആസ്ഥാനമായി പുതിയ രുപത സ്ഥാപിക്കപ്പെട്ടു. ഈ രൂപതയുടെ പ്രഥമമെത്രാനായി പാലാ രൂപതാംഗമായ ഫാ. ജോസഫ് ശ്രാമ്പിക്കലിനെയും യൂറോപ്യന്‍ രാജ്യങ്ങളിലെ സീറോ മലബാര്‍ വിശ്വാസികളുടെ അപ്പസ്റ്റോലിക് വിസിറ്റേറ്ററായി ഇരിഞ്ഞാലക്കുട രൂപതാംഗമായ മോണ്‍. സ്റ്റീഫന്‍ ചിറപ്പണത്തിനെയും പരി. പിതാവ് ഫ്രാന്‍സിസ് മാര്‍പ്പാപ്പ നിയമിച്ചു. ഇതു സംബന്ധമായുള്ള ഔദ്യോഗിക പ്രഖ്യാപനം ഇന്ന് (2016 ജൂലൈ 28 വ്യാഴം) റോമന്‍ സമയം ഉച്ചയ്ക്ക് 12 മണിക്ക് വത്തിക്കാനിലും ഇന്‍ഡ്യന്‍ സമയം ഉച്ചതിരിഞ്ഞ് 3.30- ന് കാക്കനാട് മൗണ്ട് സെന്‍റ് തോമസിലെ സീറോ മലബാര്‍ മേജര്‍ ആര്‍ക്കി എപ്പിസ്ക്കോപ്പല്‍ കൂരിയായിലും ഇംഗ്ലണ്ടിലെ പ്രസ്റ്റണ്‍ സെന്‍റ് അല്‍ഫോന്‍സാ കത്തീഡ്രല്‍ ദൈവാലയത്തിലും പ്രസിദ്ധപ്പെടുത്തി. കാക്കനാട് മൗണ്ട് സെന്‍റ് തോമസില്‍ സീറോ മലബാര്‍ സഭയുടെ മേജര്‍ ആര്‍ച്ച് ബിഷപ്പ് കര്‍ദിനാള്‍ മാര്‍ ജോര്‍ജ് ആലഞ്ചേരിയും പ്രസ്റ്റണ്‍ സെന്‍റ് അല്‍ഫോന്‍സാ കത്തീഡ്രലില്‍ ലാംഗസ്റ്റര്‍ രൂപതാ മെത്രാന്‍ ബിഷപ്പ് മൈക്കിള്‍ ക്യാംപ്ബെല്ലുമാണ് പ്രഖ്യാപനങ്ങള്‍ നടത്തിയത്. അറിയിപ്പിനു ശേഷം മേജര്‍ ആര്‍ച്ച് ബിഷപ്പ് മാര്‍ ജോര്‍ജ് ആലഞ്ചേരി, പാലാ ബിഷപ്പ് മാര്‍ ജോസഫ് കല്ലറങ്ങാട്ട്, ഇരിഞ്ഞാലക്കുട ബിഷപ്പ് മാര്‍ പോളി കണ്ണൂക്കാടന്‍ എന്നിവര്‍ ചേര്‍ന്ന് നിയുക്ത മെത്രാډാരെ സ്ഥാനചിഹ്നങ്ങള്‍ അണിയിച്ചു.
ശ്രാമ്പിക്കല്‍ പരേതനായ മാത്യുവിന്‍റെയും ഏലിക്കുട്ടിയുടെയും ആറു മക്കളില്‍ നാലാമനായി 1967 ആഗസ്റ്റ് 11-ന് ജനിച്ച ബെന്നി മാത്യു എന്നറിയപ്പെടുന്ന ഫാ. ജോസഫ് ശ്രാമ്പിക്കല്‍ പാലാ രൂപതയിലെ ഉരുളികുന്നം ഇടവകാംഗമാണ്. വലിയകൊട്ടാരം എല്‍. പി. സ്കൂള്‍, ഉരുളികുന്നം സെന്‍റ് ജോര്‍ജ് യു. പി. സ്കൂള്‍, വിളക്കുമാടം സെന്‍റ് ജോസഫ് ഹൈസ്കൂള്‍ എന്നിവടങ്ങളില്‍ സ്കൂള്‍ വിദ്യാഭ്യാസം നടത്തി. തുടര്‍ന്നു പാലാ സെന്‍റ് തോമസ് കോളേജില്‍ നിന്നു പ്രീ-ഡിഗ്രിയും, പൊളിറ്റിക്കല്‍ സയന്‍സില്‍ ഡിഗ്രിയും ബിരുദാനന്തരബിരുദവും നേടി. പാലാ സെന്‍റ് തോമസ് ട്രെയിനിംഗ് കോളേജില്‍നിന്നു ബി.എഡും കര്‍ണാടകയിലെ മംഗലാപുരം യൂണിവേഴ്സിറ്റിയില്‍നിന്നു എം. എഡും ഇംഗ്ളണ്ടിലെ ഓക്സ് ഫോര്‍ഡ് യൂണിവേഴ്സിറ്റി യില്‍നിന്നു പൗരസ്ത്യദൈവശാസ്ത്രത്തില്‍ മാസ്റ്റേഴ്സ് ബിരുദവും കരസ്ഥമാക്കിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. പാലാ ഗുഡ് ഷെപ്പേര്‍ഡ് സെമിനാരിയില്‍ മൈനര്‍ സെമിനാരി പഠനവും വടവാതൂര്‍ സെന്‍റ് തോമസ് അപ്പസ്തോലിക് സെമിനാരിയില്‍ തത്വശാസ്ത്രപഠനവും പൂര്‍ത്തിയാക്കി കഴിഞ്ഞപ്പോള്‍ ദൈവശാസ്ത്രപഠനത്തിനായി റോമിലെ ഉര്‍ബന്‍ സെമിനാരിയിലേക്കു അയയ്ക്കപ്പെട്ടു. മലയാളത്തിനു പുറമേ ഇംഗ്ലീഷ്, ഇറ്റാലിയന്‍, ജര്‍മന്‍ ഭാഷകളില്‍ പ്രാവീണ്യമുണ്ട്. ഉര്‍ബന്‍ യൂണിവേഴ്സിറ്റിയില്‍ ദൈവശാസ്ത്രത്തില്‍ ബിരുദവും ബൈബിള്‍ വിജ്ഞാനീയത്തില്‍ ലൈസന്‍ഷ്യേറ്റും നേടിയ നിയുക്തമെത്രാന്‍ 2000 ആഗസ്റ്റ് 12-ന് മാര്‍ ജോസഫ് പള്ളിക്കാപറമ്പിലില്‍ നിന്നു പൗരോഹിത്യം സ്വീകരിച്ചു. പാലാ രൂപതാ മൈനര്‍ സെമിനാരിയിലും, മാര്‍ എഫ്രേം ഫോര്‍മേഷന്‍ സെന്‍ററിലും സെന്‍റ് തോമസ് ട്രെയിനിംഗ് കോളേജിലും അധ്യാപകനായിരുന്ന ഫാ. ശ്രാമ്പിക്കല്‍ ചേര്‍പ്പുങ്കല്‍ മാര്‍ സ്ലീവാ നേഴ്സിംഗ് കോളേജിന്‍റെയും വാഗമണ്‍ മൗണ്ട് നേബോ ധ്യാനകേന്ദ്രത്തിന്‍റെയും സ്ഥാപകഡയറക്ടറാണ്. പാലാ രൂപത ഇവാഞ്ചലൈസേഷന്‍ പ്രോഗ്രാം കോ-ഓര്‍ഡിനേറ്റര്‍, കുടുംബകൂട്ടായ്മ, കരിസ്മാറ്റിക് മൂവ്മെന്‍റ്, ജീസസ് യൂത്ത്, രൂപതാബൈബിള്‍ കണവന്‍ഷന്‍, പ്രാര്‍ഥനാഭവനങ്ങള്‍ എന്നിവയുടെയും സാരഥ്യം വഹിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. 2005 മുതല്‍ 2013 വരെ പാലാ രൂപതാ മെഡിക്കല്‍ എഡ്യുക്കേഷന്‍ ട്രസ്റ്റിന്‍റെ സെക്രട്ടറിയായിരുന്നു. 2012 മുതല്‍ 2013 ആഗസ്റ്റ് 31-ന് റോമിലെ പൊന്തിഫിക്കല്‍ ഉര്‍ബന്‍ കോളേജില്‍ വൈസ് റെക്ടറായി ചാര്‍ജെടുക്കുന്നതുവരെ പാലാ ബിഷപ്പ് മാര്‍ ജോസഫ് കല്ലറങ്ങാട്ടിന്‍റെ സെക്രട്ടറിയായും സേവനമനുഷ്ഠിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. മംഗലാപുരത്തെ പഠനകാലത്ത് ബല്‍ത്തംഗടി രൂപതയിലെ കംഗനടി സെന്‍റ് അല്‍ഫോന്‍സാ ഇടവകയിലും ഓക്സ് ഫോര്‍ഡ് യൂണിവേഴ്സിറ്റിയിലെ പഠനകാലത്ത് ഇംഗ്ലണ്ടിലും കഴിഞ്ഞ മൂന്നു വര്‍ഷമായി റോമിലും സീറോ മലബാര്‍ വിശ്വാസികളുടെ അജപാലന ആവശ്യങ്ങളില്‍ സഹായിച്ചിരുന്നു. കരുണയുടെ വര്‍ഷത്തില്‍ പരിശുദ്ധപിതാവു ഫ്രാന്‍സിസ് മാര്‍പ്പാപ്പ പ്രത്യേകം നിയോഗിച്ച ആയിരത്തിലധികം കരുണയുടെ പ്രേഷിതരില്‍ ഒരാളായിരുന്നു നിയുക്തമെത്രാന്‍.
യൂറോപ്പിലെ അപ്പസ്റ്റോലിക് വിസിറ്റേറ്ററായി നിയമിക്കപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്ന മോണ്‍. സ്റ്റീഫന്‍ ചിറപ്പണത്ത് ഇരിഞ്ഞാലക്കുട രൂപതയിലെ പുത്തന്‍ചിറ ഇടവകയില്‍ കവലക്കാട്ട്-ചിറപ്പണത്ത് പരേതരായ പോള്‍-റോസി ദമ്പതികളുടെ എട്ടു മക്കളില്‍ ഏഴാമനായി 1961 ഡിസംബര്‍ 26-ന് ജനിച്ചു. പുത്തന്‍ചിറ ഹോളി ഫാമിലി എല്‍. പി. സ്കൂള്‍, കുഴിക്കാട്ടുശ്ശേരി സെന്‍റ് മേരീസ് യു.പി. സ്കൂള്‍, തുമ്പൂര്‍ റൂറല്‍ ഹൈസ്കൂള്‍ എന്നിവിടങ്ങളില്‍ സ്കൂള്‍ വിദ്യാഭ്യാസം പൂര്‍ത്തിയാക്കിയ ശേഷം തൃശ്ശൂര്‍, തോപ്പ് സെന്‍റ് മേരീസ് മൈനര്‍ സെമിനാരിയില്‍ ചേര്‍ന്നു. വടവാതൂര്‍ സെന്‍റ് തോമസ് അപ്പസ്തോലിക് മേജര്‍ സെമിനാരിയില്‍ തത്വശാസ്ത്രവും ദൈവശാസ്ത്രവും പഠിച്ചു. 1987 ഡിസംബര്‍ 26-ന് മാര്‍ ജെയിംസ് പഴയാറ്റില്‍ പിതാവിന്‍റെ കൈവയ്പു വഴി പൗരോഹിത്യം സ്വീകരിച്ചു. തുടര്‍ന്നു ചാലക്കുടി, ആളൂര്‍ പള്ളികളില്‍ അസിസ്റ്റന്‍റു വികാരിയായും ഇരിഞ്ഞാലക്കുട സെന്‍റ് പോള്‍സ് മൈനര്‍ സെമിനാരിയില്‍ ഫാദര്‍ പ്രീഫെക്ടായും പ്രവര്‍ത്തിച്ചശേഷം ഉപരിപഠനത്തിനായി റോമിലേക്കു അയയ്ക്കപ്പെട്ടു. റോമിലെ ലാറ്ററന്‍ യൂണിവേഴ്സിറ്റിയിലെ അല്‍ഫോന്‍സിയന്‍ അക്കാദമിയില്‍ നിന്നു ധാര്‍മിക ദൈവശാസ്ത്രത്തില്‍ ഡോക്ടറേറ്റു നേടിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. മലയാളത്തിനു പുറമേ ഇംഗ്ലീഷ്, ഇറ്റാലിയന്‍, ജര്‍മന്‍ ഭാഷകളില്‍ പ്രാവീണ്യമുണ്ട്. ഇരിഞ്ഞാലക്കുട രൂപതയിലെ വിവിധ ഭക്തസംഘടനകളുടെ ഡയറക്ടര്‍, പാസ്റ്ററല്‍ കൗണ്‍സില്‍ സെക്രട്ടറി, വിവാഹകോടതി ജഡ്ജ്, മഹാജൂബിലി ജനറല്‍ കണ്‍വീനര്‍, ബി.എല്‍.എം. അസ്സി.ഡയറക്ടര്‍, നവചൈതന്യ-സാന്‍ജോഭവന്‍ സ്ഥാപനങ്ങളുടെ ഡയറക്ടര്‍, പാദുവാ നഗര്‍പള്ളി വികാരി, ഇരിഞ്ഞാലക്കുട മൈനര്‍ സെമിനാരി റെക്ടര്‍, വടവാതൂര്‍ സെന്‍റ് തോമസ് അപ്പസ്തോലിക് സെമിനാരിയില്‍ പ്രൊക്കുരേറ്റര്‍, വൈസ് റെക്ടര്‍, ലക്ചറര്‍, എന്നീ നിലകളിലും തൃശ്ശൂര്‍ മേരി മാതാ, കുന്നോത്ത് ഗുഡ് ഷെപ്പേര്‍ഡ് എന്നീ മേജര്‍ സെമിനാരികളില്‍ വിസിറ്റിംഗ് പ്രൊഫസ്സറായും സേവനമനുഷ്ഠിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. കഴിഞ്ഞ അഞ്ചു വര്‍ഷമായി റോമില്‍ സഭയുടെ മേജര്‍ ആര്‍ച്ചുബിഷപ്പിന്‍റെ പ്രൊക്കുരേറ്ററായും റോമാ രൂപതയിലുള്ള സീറോ മലബാര്‍ വിശ്വാസികളുടെ വികാരിയായും ഇറ്റലി മുഴുവനിലുമുള്ള സീറോ മലബാര്‍ വിശ്വാസികളുടെ കോ-ഓര്‍ഡിനേറ്ററായും സേവനം ചെയ്തു വരുമ്പോഴാണ് പുതിയ നിയമനം ലഭിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത്. റോമിലെ പ്രൊക്കുരേറ്റര്‍ എന്ന ശുശ്രൂഷ മോണ്‍. സ്റ്റീഫന്‍ തുടരുന്നതാണ്. റോമിലുള്ള വിവിധരാജ്യങ്ങളിലെ പ്രവാസിസമൂഹങ്ങള്‍ക്കു അജപാലനശുശ്രൂഷ ചെയ്തുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്ന വൈദികരെ പ്രതിനിധീകരിച്ച് റോമാരൂപതയിലെ പ്രസിബിറ്ററല്‍ കൗണ്‍സിലിലും അംഗമാണ് മോണ്‍. സ്റ്റീഫണ്‍.

NEW EPARCHY FOR THE SYRO-MALABAR CHURCH IN GREAT BRITAIN WITH FR. JOSPEH (BENNY MATHEW) SRAMPICKAL AS THE FIRST BISHOP
A new eparchy is erected for the Syro-Malabar faithful in Great Britain with its See at Preston.Pope Francis appointed Fr. Joseph (Benny Mathew) Srampickal from the Eparchy of Palai as itsfirst Bishop. The official publication of this appointment was made in the Vatican today (Thursday,28 July 2016) at 12.00 p.m. Italian time and simultaneously at 3.30 p.m. IST at the MajorArchiepiscopal Curia, Mount St. Thomas, Kakkanad. At Kakkanad, the Major Archbishop and in StAlphonsa’s Cathedral, Preston, Most Rev. Michael Campbell OSA made the announcement of theappointment. After the announcement, the Major Archbishop George Cardinal Alencherry andBishop Joseph Kallarangatt, Bishop of Palai adorned the Bishop- elect with the insignia ofEpiscopacy. Fr. Srampickal was born on 11 August 1967 at Urulikunnam in the Eparchy of Palai as the fourthchild of the six children of Late Mr. Mathew and Mrs. Elikutty Srampickal. He had his schooleducation from L.P. School, Valiyakottaram, St. George U.P. School, Urulikunnam, and St. Joseph’sHigh School, Vilakumadam. He had his Pre-Degree, Degree and Post-Graduate Studies in PoliticalScience from St. Thomas College, Palai. He also secured his B.Ed. from St. Thomas TrainingCollege, Palai, and M.Ed. from Mangalore University, Karnataka. He has also obtained MastersDegree in Oriental Theology from Oxford University, England. He had his Minor Seminaryformation in Good Shepherd Seminary, Palai and Philosophical studies in St. Thomas ApostolicSeminary, Vadavathoor, Kottayam. He was sent to Pontifical Urban Seminary, Rome, fortheological studies. He secured Bachelor’s Degree in Theology and a Licentiate in BiblicalTheology from Urban University, Rome. He was ordained priest on 12 August 2000 by BishopJoseph Pallickaparampil. He knows Malayalam, English, Italian and German languages.After his ordination, Fr. Srampickal rendered his service as teacher in the Eparchial MinorSeminary of Palai, Mar Ephrem Formation Centre and in St. Thomas Training College, Palai. Healso served as the Founder Director of both Mar Sleeva Nursing College, Cherpunkal, and MountNebo Retreat Centre, Wagamon. He was Coordinator of the Eparchial Evangelization Programmeand Director of Kudumbakoottayma (Family Prayer Units), Eparchial Charismatic Movement,Jesus Youth, Bible Convention, Prayer Centres etc. From 2005 to 2013, he was Secretary of PalaiEparchial Medical Eduction Trust. From 2012 until the appointment as Vice Rector of thePontifical Urban College De Propaganda Fide, Rome, on 31 August 2013, he was Secretary toBishop Joseph Kallarangatt. He has also done pastoral ministry in St. Alphonsa Parish, Kankanadyin the Eparchy of Belthangady during his studies in Mangalore and in England during his studies atOxford. Since last three years, while serving as the Vice Rector of Urban College, he has beenassisting in the pastoral ministry for the Syro-Malabar faithful in Rome. During this Year of Mercy,among more than 1000 Missionaries of Mercy chosen by Pope Francis was the Bishop-elect FrJoseph Srampickal. The date of the Episcopal Ordination and the Enthronement will be announced later.

Pope Francis appointed Mgr. Stephen Chirappanath from the Eparchy of Irinjalakuda as theApostolic Visitator with Episcopal character, for the Syro-Malabar faithful in Europe. After the announcement, the Major Archbishop GeorgeCardinal Alencherry and Bishop Pauly Kannookadan, Bishop of Irinjalakuda adorned theBishop-elect with the insignia of Episcopacy.Mgr. Chirappanath was born on 26 December 1961 at Puthenchira in the Eparchy ofIrinjalakuda as the seventh child of the eight children of Late Mr. Paul and Late Mrs. RosyKavalakkattu-Chirappanath. He had his school education at Holy Family L.P. School,Puthenchira, St. Mary’s U.P. School, Kuzhikattussery, and Rural High School, Thumboor. Hehad his Minor Seminary formation at St. Mary’s Minor Seminary, Thope, Trichur,Philosophical and Theological studies at St. Thomas Apostolic Seminary, Vadavathoor,Kottayam. He was ordained priest on 26 December 1987 by Bishop James Pazhayattil. Afterhis ministry as Assistant Parish Priest in St. Mary’s Forane Church, Chalakudy and St.Joseph’s Church, Aloor and as Father Prefect in St. Paul’s Minor Seminary, Irijalakuda, Mgr.Chirappanath was sent to Rome for higher studies from where he obtained Doctorate inMoral Theology from the Alphonsian Academy of the Lateran University. On his return from Rome, Mgr. Chirappanath has rendered his service as the Director ofvarious Pious Associations, Secretary of the Eparchial Pastoral Council, Judge inMatrimonial Tribunal, General Convener of the Great Jubilee of the Year 2000 celebrations,Assistant Director of BLM, Director of Navachaitanya-Sanjo Bhavan, Parish Priest of St.Antony’s Church, Paduvanagar and Rector, St. Paul’s Minor Seminary, Irinjalakuda. He alsoserved in St. Thomas Apostolic Seminary, Vadavathoor as Lecturer, Vice-Rector andProcurator. He had been a Visiting Professor at Mary Matha Major Seminary, Thirssur andGood Shepherd Major Seminary, Kunnoth. Pope Francis nominated him Apostolic Visitator, as he was serving in Rome as the Procuratorof the Major Archbishop of the Syro-Malabar Church at the Apostolic See, Co-ordinator forthe Syro-Malabar faithful in Italy and Parish Priest of the Syro-Malabar faithful in Rome forthe past five years. He will be continuing the ministry of the Procurator of the MajorArchbishop at the Apostolic See. He is also a member of the Presbyteral Council of thediocese of Rome representing the priests serving the migrant communities from differentcountries residing in Rome. The date of the Episcopal Ordination of the Bishop-elect and assumption of office will beannounced later.
